Important】Re-entry into Japan for international students with residence status
(The information below is as of 7th January: Due to frequent changes in re-entry conditions, please keep yourself updated on the latest information via the Japanese government website.)

As of December 2, 2021, re-entry into Japan has been denied to foreign nationals with residence status who have stayed in Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Democratic Republic of the Congo,?Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe within 14 days prior to application for re-entry (Democratic Republic of the Congo has been from December 12, 2021).
However, re-entry into Japan for foreign nationals with residence status returning from these 11 countries, arriving after 0:00 am (JST), January 12, 2022, are not subject to the above-mentioned measures, but until that time, these measures have been applied.)

Enforced quarantine measures

Current quarantine measures have been strengthened according to the following webpage: HP of Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfares. It has been decided to keep these measures in place until further notice.

Please also refer to the HP of Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Reinforced quarantine measures for all the travelers who enter, re-enter or return to Japan from designated countries/regions in response to coronavirus variant Omicron (B.1.1.529) and Reinforced quarantine measures for all the travelers who enter, re-enter or return to Japan from designated countries/regions in response to COVID-19 variants of special treatment on border measures.

(New) Suspension of visa validity

From 0:00 am (JST) December 2, 2021, as an emergency precautionary measure to prevent against the coronavirus variant Omicron (B.1.1.529), for the time being, validity of visas issued as of December 2, 2021 are suspended except for those with a residence status of “Spouse or Child of a Japanese National”, “Spouse or Child of a Permanent Resident” or “Diplomat”. This measure does not apply to foreign nationals who departed from overseas before 00:00 am (JST) on December 2, 2021 and arrived in Japan after that time.

As for visas already issued under a “Business Track” or “Residence Track” and visas issued based on “New measures for border enforcement (4)” (referred to in Note 2 of Article 1), for the time being, validity of those visas have been suspended from 0:00 am (JST) on January 21, 2021 based on an announcement of the Government of Japan dated January 13, 2021.
